Go “behind the scenes” with Winterthur’s curators and staff to discover the secrets and treasures of the museum, Galleries, and collection storage areas. Each tour will focus on a different theme. The objects in Winterthur’s collection provide us with tangible links to our country’s past, but in their own time they frequently connected contemporaneous family members to one another. Join Catharine Dann Roeber, development officer, Major Gifts at Winterthur, as she explores some of her favorite family portraits and paired portraits as well as silver and textiles that represent familial bonds throughout the ages.

Decorative and Fine Arts from the South at Winterthur

While the vast majority of Winterthur’s holdings represent the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions, there are quite a few treasures from the South. Tom Savage, director of museum affairs, will introduce guests to paintings of southern subjects, architecture from southern houses, ceramics from southern tables, and the finest of Charleston rococo easy chairs long thought to have been made in Philadelphia. Several recent acquisitions with southern provenance will be examined.
