A Collection of Collections
Winterthur strives to make its collections accessible to the public in exciting and educational ways. From the first visit, our guests learn how closely our ever-growing Museum, Garden, and Library collections are interwoven, a process begun by our founder Henry Francis du Pont and continued today by our staff members.
Guests visiting our Museum Collections discover our decorative and fine artwork, learning the history of such objects as well as how they fit into the larger world. Our specialists in Collection Care and Conservation help us to protect and display these precious resources. In the Gardens decorative artwork and architectural elements accent the stunning plant collections in woodland surroundings. Our publically accessible Library has significant holdings for the study of American craftsmanship, everyday life in America, as well as objects in Winterthur’s museum rooms.
As well as through Winterthur publications, many of them available for purchase, a portion of Winterthur’s collections is available online. See Library digital collections and Museum digital collections.
