This talk will focus on two modern women who broke the rules: one wholly fictional (Julian Fellowes's "Lady Edith"), the other a real woman named Cicely Fairfield (1892-1963), who recreated herself as "Rebecca West" and who, late in life, was made Dame of the British Empire.
