Reflecting Pool
In 1929 H. F. du Pont planned a major enlargement of his house and commissioned his lifelong friend, landscape architect Marian Coffin, to design his garden. Like many designers of the "country house" era, Coffin was inspired by the symmetry, proportions, and classical architecture of Italian Renaissance gardens.
