WINTERTHUR, DE (March 11, 2025) – The 47th Annual Point-to-Point—with thrilling steeplechase races, epic tailgating, antique carriages, and fun for all ages—will return to the grounds of Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library on May 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Point-to-Point is a quintessential spring event held annually since 1979 on the picturesque, rolling hills of the former du Pont country estate. The experience is steeped in style, elegance, and tradition.
Popular activities returning to Point-to-Point this year include the small and large pony races starting at noon, followed by the Parade of River Hills Foxhounds, and the George A. “Frolic” Weymouth Parade of Antique Carriages.
Steeplechase race post times are 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. Purses for the jump races are $20,000, $25,000, and $15,000. Horses and jockeys will run a challenging three-and-one-quarter-mile course, jumping eight timber fences a total of 17 times. The first two races are for professional riders. Race three is for amateur apprentice riders. The fourth and final event at 3:30 p.m. is an amateur training flat race.
From the jockeys’ silks and colors to the dapper menswear, lovely dresses, and hats donned by guests, Point-to-Point is a fashionable affair. Prizes will be awarded for the finest classic race-day attire. Two winners will each receive a $250 gift card from Wilmington Country Store, and one will receive their choice of a hat or fascinator from Christine A. Moore Millinery.
Point-to-Point culinary experiences are as exciting as the fashions. Tailgates and tablescapes range from casual to exquisite. The Point-to-Point silver tray will be awarded for the best-presented tailgate. Guests 21 and older can watch the races by the finish line at the Winterthur Hunt Brunch Tent or from a private tent on the rail while enjoying food and beverages from Bluecoast Seafood Grill & Raw Bar, SoDel Concepts’ flagship restaurant. A family friendy hospitality tent option includes the Fiesta Tent taco bar. Advance reservations required; see website for details and to purchase.
The Marketplace offers shopping, with equine- and canine-themed vendors. Meet author Kareem Rosser, former Winterthur pony race jockey and collegiate polo player of the year, for a signing of his latest release, “When You’re Ready.” Other attractions include antique Rolls-Royce automobiles and Bentleys on view alongside antique carriages. Attendees can also enjoy crafts and contests provided by community organizations at Winterthur Hunt. Complimentary events for children include stick horse races, pony rides by Cloverleaf Stables, and hayrides courtesy of Ramsey’s Farms.
Tailgate parking spaces, tailgate guest wristbands, and individual Winterthur Member wristbands are on sale now. Visit winterthur.org/PTP for details and purchasing. Advance sales only. All parking and admission must be purchased by May 3. No will-call. No wristbands or tailgate credentials will be mailed after April 25. Point-to-Point attendees can bring their wristband back during the month of May to enjoy a day of complimentary general admission to Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library.
Point-to-Point is Winterthur’s largest one-day fundraising event. Proceeds from this year’s Point-to-Point support key environmental and landscape stewardship initiatives such as Winterthur’s Natural Lands program managing woodland, meadow, and wetland habitats throughout the estate; preservation of the Winterthur Garden; and initiatives to invite members and visitors to enjoy almost 1,000 acres of conserved land.
Sponsors for the 2025 Point-to-Point event are Constellation, Winner Automotive Group, Gateway Aviation Institute, Casamigos Tequila, Woodford Reserve, Santa Fe Mexican Grill, Bluecoast Seafood Grill & Raw Bar, Boothwyn Pharmacy, New American Funding, and King.
