Check these out:
- Cherry blossoms: The autumn rosebud cherry (Prunus subhirtella ‘Autumnalis’) is blooming along Garden Lane at the far side of the Pinetum.
- Brilliant berries: The bright red berries of willow-leaf cotoneaster give a festive look to the fence on Sycamore Hill.
- Crabapples: The flowering crabapples (Malus species and cultivars) at the edge of the Pinetum and the edge of the Sundial Garden are putting on an end of season show of lovely red fruits. The birds and squirrels are feasting on them, so the show won’t last much longer.
- Witch hazel: Common witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) unfurls the narrow yellow ‘ribbons’ of its blooms in Enchanted Woods and at the parking lot wall behind the Carriage House.
